Bourgogne Cote d'Or 2022
An award winning and very well reviewed Chardonnay, this is a great expression of the potential of the region in capable winemaking hands, and a great expression of the slow modernization that Hélène Michaut has undertaken in the winery. Cold fermented to preserve the aromatic expression of the Chardonnay grape, this is a floral, even tropical wine, with a burst of intense aromas and flavours. This is far from boring Chardonnay. 100% Chardonnay. Acacia flowers, almonds, and a burst of mixed citrus with a touch of tart tropical fruit on the nose and the initial palate. Brilliant straw robe. The midpalate is dense and saline, with a very complex mix of green almond bitterness and grapefruit pith on the finish. The bitterness never overwhelms though, and the overall impression is of silky, weighted density with a marked saline quality throughout.

The Story

Based in the northern part of Burgundy, in the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine has been in one family since the rule of Louis XIV and has been passed from mother to daughter for six generations. It is currently run by Hélène Michaut, who took it over from her mother in 2009, and has been working on modernizing production since she bought a new winery space in 2014.
