2016 Santalba Reserva In contrast to the Crianza, this wine is all about the dark fruit, with lovely blackberry and black plum notes integrated into the classic American oak profile. This wine will continue to improve for at least six years, but it's fantastic now, although we would recommend a decant (an hour should do the trick nicely).
Vinification: 100% Tempranillo from old vines, aged for 18 months in new American oak.
Tasting Notes: Bright ruby robe with tawny edges, black fruit, spice, vanilla and licorice on the nose, fantastic balance of dense black fruit and spice and vanilla from the oak. Long dense finish that improves with an hour or se decanting.
Food: Great with roast birds, mushroom dishes, paella and other rice dishes.
Cellaring: Will cellar easily for a decade, but drinks well now.
