More Details:

Our second Cognac and Armagnac discovery experience is a deep dive into two of the greatest Armagnac and Cognac producers we could find. Château de Maniban is an artisan producer with 800 years of experience, and an incredible, complex flavour profile.

We have Armagnacs available from them dating back to the 1800s, and have put together a special box featuring three of their most celebrated vintages, each from a different decade! With one bottle each from 1978, 1987 and 2000, this box will allow you the rare pleasure of a truly deep Armagnac vertical, comparing not only year to year, but the dramatic differences decades of aging produce!

Your other two bottles will be two of the very few examples of Cognac made on an artisanal scale: in a landscape mostly dominated by huge producers making Cognac on an industrial scale, Bourgoin stands out not only for the excellence and uncompromising quality of their product, but for the fact that they are a small scale producer. They grow and harvest their own grapes, almost unheard of in Cognac, and often age their barrels for far longer than required for the various levels of Cognac they release. Like many low-intervention winemakers, they are working with indigenous yeasts only, and endeavouring to produce terroir focused, microproductions of unique Cognac that they have carefully guided from vine to hand-bottling. We are including two bottles from 1998, one higher percentage, unfiltered “Brut de Fut”, and one “Microbarrique”, finished in a tiny, ten liter oak barrel, giving it an incredible complexity and huge range of aromatics. Along with a pair of Riedel Cognac glasses, we have packaged some food suggested by the producers as perfect accompaniments: a sweet pairing of chocolate, and a savoury one of foie gras, perfect for an evening of sampling these amazing products and getting to know the deeper side of French spirits.
