2021 Sassi di Lolocco Rosso Toscano IGT

by Fabrizio Pratesi is a compelling 100% Merlot, capturing both elegance and Tuscan vigor. Very wide aromas with hints of red and black berry fruit, chocolate, tobacco, licorice, cassis and evident spiciness, elegant and persistent finish. On the palate it reveals a powerful structure but also a measured balance, a full, fine and equilibrated taste with a silky, dense, voluminous, juicy and balanced tannin accompanied by a fresh acidity extending into long and persistent fruity, floral and spicy notes. Very persistent deep and elegant finish. Aged in temperature controlled stainless steel for about 25 days, the wine offers freshness alongside nuanced depth. It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, mushroom-studded pasta, or aged pecorino with honey. Fabrizio Pratesi, a natural winemaking visionary in Tuscany, champions low-intervention practices and indigenous varietals, crafting wines like Sassi di Lolocco that express true sense of place with authenticity and finesse.

The Story

Fabrizio Pratesi is a family-run winery in the historic Carmignano appellation of Tuscany, with winegrowing roots dating back to 1875 in Lolocco, near Florence. Today, Fabrizio and his wife Cristina manage approximately 10 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot—cultivated organically and harvested by hand to produce elegant, terroir-driven wines like their Locorosso, Carmione DOCG, and Il Circo Rosso Riserva DOCG.
